Happy Teacher's Day!
This song is dedicated to all the teachers out there.
On this day I wish all of you a Happy Teacher's Day
You Raise Me Up - Josh Groban
Lyrics:
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.
You raise me up... To more than I can be.

I Made It! :)
Didn't beat my previous record but only missed it by 3 minutes. With a cramped leg at that :)
Moral of the story:
Even during the darkest moments (when my left leg began to cramp at the 16km mark and I was to run with a limp), just bear with it and never quit. Sure it wasn't the time I was trying to achieve, but I took on the longest race available for this event (21km) and finished it in less than 3 hours.
The pain was agonising but the smile at the finish line was definitely worth it :)
So to all my pupils, never give up!

Don't Quit!
Moral of the Story:
You have in you greater potential than you will ever know. But you'll never discover it until you have given it your all!

Never Let Your Guard Down
The video shows this racer who showed off just before he crossed the finish line and ended up crashing at the side and losing the winner's prize. The funny part was where he still tried to push the car to the finish line after he crashed.
Morale of the story: Don't be overconfident!

Quotes of the Week #1 - Aug Edition 2008
The pride of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.
#2
He who does his best, however little, is always to be distinguished from him who does nothing.
The greatest pleasure in life, is doing the things people say we cannot do.
- Walter Bagehot
It is not a disgrace not to reach the stars, but it is a disgrace to have no stars to reach for.
You can quit and no one will really care....but you will always know.
- John Colins
#6
Champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their championship character.
-- T. Alan Armstrong
- Percy Cerutty
#10
Once you're beaten mentally, you might was well not even go to the starting line.

What It Means to Set a Personal Best
Once upon a time I ran 2 full-marathons in 15 days. I must confess that completing 42km on foot never crossed my mind as possible as I always thought that the human body has its limits. However, it took a challenge and then a change in my perception that got me on track in completing the distance.
It was a feat I overcame with much hardship through hours of training, discipline and determination. It was everything but easy. Through it all, I had faced my share of critics who did not think I was able to complete the distance and bade me ill. Even my doctor told me that I could not do it and to train for a year; time I do not have. Honestly, there were times I even doubt my own abilities. Even so, I persevered and refused to allow those negative words to get in the way of my goal and that is to complete a marathon.
And deep down, I wanted more. Completing 1 marathon would fulfill the goal I had set out to do but surprisingly many people seemed to have done it. However completing 2 in 15 days would be a much more significant accomplishment and something I believe I can do.
The day came and went and I succeeded. In the words of the Adidas advertisement, I had achieved my impossible.
Now, that the race has been won, I find myself wanting to aim for a higher goal. To achieve a personal best and breaking the past record. Not because I am greedy for fame, recognition or all that but because deep down I believe that I can do better.
----------------
So as you my pupils study for your exams, ask yourself whether you had set your goals and how far you think you are from achieving them. As the day grows nearer to the exams, you should be disciplined in your preparation and getting ready to meet the exams head on. You should be striving to get better scores than the ones you got from the last exam instead of merely aiming for a pass. It won't be an easy path, that I assure you. But no worthwhile victories are ever easy. Do your best and your critics will be silenced forever. And most importantly, you'll feel so much better because deep down you know that you have achieved.
Life is too short to think small.
-----------------
And so, I'll be competing in 3 more marathons in the last 3 months of the year, back to back. With the 2nd and last marathon within 14 days of each other. I do not wish to elaborate more except to say that when you have a goal, you have to go all out to achieve them. Never let regrets take the place of your dreams.
I hope, I'll report my success to you, my visitors, by year's end. The journey to my marathon goal is not yet over.
The best is yet to be.
