The Problem With Dandelions

A man who took great pride in his lawn found himself with a large crop of dandelions. He tried every method he knew to get rid of them. Still they plagued him.

Finally he wrote to the Department of Agriculture. He enumerated all the things he had tried and closed his letter with the question: "What shall I do now?"

In due course, the reply came: "We suggest you learn to love them."

Wonder of the World - Angkor Wat

the Angkor Wat poised magnificently behind the 8th Wonder of the World :)
1 down. 99 to go.
Check out this website for the list of Wonders of The World. The website provides justification as to why a 'Wonder' is a Wonder. An interesting read!

The Masterpiece

bright colors and precise lines. Just as how my team and I envisioned it.

Helping Out

even the local children came out to help us

Precision Work

Project Hopscotch

Mr Danny and his team; the 'Decepticons' :) had to create the hopscotch design itself. We decided to create and paint one square at a time to ensure that the each box comes out the same size and in the correct alignment. Yes, I can be a perfectionist sometimes.
... oh and teh fact that I want my design to come up the best :)

The Teachers' Project

All the guy teacher that day was given a task to be in-charge of. We were to paint hopscotch-like designs on the courtyard so that the Cambodian children can use the latter to play. From the picture above, you can see Mr Kenny Chua and Mr Long hard at work with their designs.

So what is Mr Danny doing? Where's his project? Hmmm....

The Debriefing

At the end of each day, we gathered for a debriefing of the day's activities. The only thing on my mind then was a good night sleep.

Mimi aka Ta-Prut

The mischievious girl we called Mimi (later Ta-Prut) who kept disturbing us doing our work.

The Thin Red Line

We quickly got back to our task of helping out the school. The girls were transported to the another school where they had to refurbish the library. The boys on the other hand were tasked with the more physical, out-in-the-sun-macho activities :)

We had to paint the entire courtyard line and the massive task spilled over to Day 2

The Local Children

We soon caught sight of the local children coming into the school. Though it was a school break for them as well, their curiosity must have compelled them to come back to find out more about their visitors

Touring the School

We toured the school to assess the help we could chip in. It so happened that according to the school's representative, the school above was the most advanced amongst all the other rural schools because of other donors that came before us.

The Miniature Replica

Tthere was this miniature replica of the Angkor Wat in front of the hotel that was carved out of stone which caught my attention. The attention to details was amazing.

Teachers' Meeting

Tthe teachers sat down from representatives of the Cambodia school to discuss the work ahead

Breakfast at Princess Angkor Hotel

We had a hearty buffet breakfast at the hotel before the imminent work ahead

1st Order of the day;- Supplies!

We stopped at a local minimart to get supplies, specifically mineral water. Unlike Singapore, water from the tap is not drinkable.

The Journey Begins!

In the wee hours of the morning at 3rd Sept 2007 at 0600hrs, 28 pupils and 10 teachers from Yew Tee Primary School embarked on our first International CIP project at Cambodia.

What You Had Missed ....

Be Thankful

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don't know something,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for your mistakes.
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you're tired and weary,
because it means you've made a difference.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings.

The Final Analysis

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, People may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway

1) I'm Glad You're In My Dash

I'm Glad You're In My Dash---

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years. (1934-1998)

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth...
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own;
The cars...the house...the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard...
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile..
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy's being read
With your life's actions to rehash...
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?
