A Nice Catchy Song from an Advertisement

The Featured Song for Star World TV's Monday Night Laughs Advertisements.

Give me one reason if you got one reason said there ain't no reason that we shouldn't get together tonight x 2

Well I can see you had a rough day baby
Well maybe I can loosen you up
And I can see you need a refill baby
Well maybe I can fill up your cup
And if we hear a slow song maybe we can hold hands
Dancing till the song ends then we'll look up
And if our eyes meet, smiles crack and arms don't fall
Then we'll both know that we're gonna hook up

Give me one reason if you got one reason said there ain't no reason that we shouldn't get together tonight x 2

I'm sending you an invitation,respsondez-vous sil vous plait
I let you pick the time, day or night, there is no reason to stay at home tonite
I know that, you're not pre-occupied
that you are bored, but you're not tired
just think you can be here in a week's time
there is no reason to stay at home tonite
come on by anytime to say hi night or day day or night
I'm always open for you I'm hoping that you will show

Give me one reason if you got one reason said there aint no reason that we shouldn't get together tonight x 2

Well I can feel that there is new day dawning something's telling you from deep down inside
I think it's time I stop the all day yawning something waking up with much better sigh
And all the while it was you it was you and your smile that carried me from day to day
And I have to say now that we're face to face there ain't no place to run away

Give me one reason if you got one reason said there ain't no reason that we shouldn't get together tonight x 2

CHORUS (repeat)

FADE

Don't Mess With the Best!

i love the theme song - thought it was from Simple Plan :)
++ pity the foolish monster at the end. Hahaha!
----
This is the last stand, for humanity.
Power Rangers R.P.M., let's go!
Getting late, need to get some rest, then Venjix puts us to the test.
Don't they know we're the best? Power Rangers!
Evil must seize, trying to destroy me and Corinth City.
Well, let me say...
We're here to save humanity. Power Rangers!
This is the last stand, and we'll do our best. R.P.M. go!
We're here to save humanity. Power Rangers!
They'll never break us, or erase us.
Power Rangers R.P.M., let's go!
Power Rangers R.P.M., let's go!

An 'A' for KB - Couldn't Have Done It Without You :)

Yay! I got an A-grade for the KB (Knowledge Building) module :)

I couldn't have done this alone so here's a special shoutout and my heartfelt gratitude to;-

My ex-pupils of 6 Patience '09 - for spending some time on the project for your post-PSLE activities and asking thoughtful questions and giving elaborate answers on the Moodle forum and on the KB Board. Also to the interviewees on their experience on learning online and the Arty Girls who helped put up the KB Board.

My team members Damien and Pal;- for consolidating the final report and for the 'awesome' presentation. For an All-Guy Team we sure did great!

And of course, my lecturers Dr Tan and Dr Kim for your kind support.

4 modules down and 5 more to go!

Claps for everyone! Hurrah! :)

---------

Knowledge building can be considered as deep constructivism that involves making a collective inquiry into a specific topic, and coming to a deeper understanding through interactive questioning, dialogue, and continuing improvement of ideas. Ideas are thus the medium of operation in KB environments. The teacher becomes a guide, rather than a director, and allows students to take over a significant portion of the responsibility for their own learning, including planning, execution, and evaluation.

Tracking The Books You've Read

four books in less than one month - whoopee!

I'm not sure about you but after reading some books, sometimes you may want to look back at the books you've read right? Isn't it frustrating to try and recall the books you've read right?

I found this interesting website called Shelfari. It is an online tool that helps you archive the books you've read and put the covers up in this virtual bookcase so you can look back at the books you've read thus far. You can review the books, grade them and tag them amongst the multitude of things you can do. This tool will definitely be useful for casual readers, bookworms and the aspiring ones.

For me I'm trying to read at least one book a month (don't normally have the luxury to read once school starts and whatever time I have for reading is allocated to reading up on my study notes instead). And I think I'll target 50 for the year 2010 - as part of my new year's resolution. And this tool will help me keep score on my proposed goal :)
And to those P6-going-on-to-Sec-1 pupils, you defintely have to read 1 storybook for you Literature. So why not start with that one?

Check it out by clicking on the link below, sign up for a free account, put it up on your blog (if you have one) and start reading :)

Book #03 - Make A List

written by Michael Ogden and Chris Day

This book is quite intriguing because it provides readers with ideas on making up a list of things to do before one ....err....moves on to "greener pastures" :) However the idea of having an enriching is by making a list of things to do - from the simple to the absurb. In a nutshell, these 'things-to-do' is something akin to your new year's resolutions except they don't have a one year dateline. As a matter of fact, they are actually disguised goals.

As a matter of fact, I already have my 'list' and though the book prescribes a conservative 100 items;- I'm going for a 1000 ( MrDanny loves to up the ante ) I'm somewhere close to 200 and still thinking about the other 800+ things. Of course you must not be so materialistic in your goals like 'I must have a Puma sweater/ new handphone/ new wallet' and such because material things don't last. One of the things I can tick off my list is 'To Run and Complete a Marathon' :)

Well if you want interesting ideas or things to do during this so called 'boring' holidays, I suggest you make a list of the things you've always wanted to do and start planning and doing them.

Number 11 :P

The only one who can tell you 'you can't' is you.
And you don't have to listen.

- Nike

PS: Unfortunately, I didn't get to hear Taylor Swift serenading to me during the run as I had finished the race before she got a chance (blame it on her name which starts with the ltter 'T' and thus she ended up somewhere at the bottom of my playlist).

Running With Taylor Swift :)

My completed marathon playlist on my iPod - 6h of heart-pounding, adrenaline pumping songs.

And 6h is the time to get to beat my previous Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon record. And that means, if the songs have all been played, it'll mean that I am not able to achieve a new personal best :(

PS: And I got Taylor Swift to serenade to me tomorrow :)

Book #02 - Think Opposite

Just finished reading my 2nd book for this month (no surprise here as the book is not so 'wordy' but the messages have a strong impact).

Pretty interesting book. It highlights the point that always playing it safe does not always guarantee a successful and meaningful life. Take Risks, Dream Big, Have a Goal and Reach for the Stars are some of the messages within perfectly illustrated by real life examples.

I like the photos and the pictures in the book too.

a parting message

The Making of Photo-Video Theme Song For GradNight

"So I'll let you go, I'll set you free
And when you've seen what you need to see
When you find you, come back to me
Come back to me"

-----

David Cook's song, Come Back To Me is based on the idea of letting someone you cherish go and if it is meant to be, they'll come back.

In Life, we'll always forge new bonds of friendship. Some bonds last a lifetime but at times, those bonds simply fade away - people change or it could be from our own passive indifference to pick up the phone to make a call now and then. Whatever the outcome is, we will be grateful that there was a point in our lives where our paths crossed and we're never the same again and that our lives are that much more complete because of it.

"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."

PS: And that's why photos are important to remind us of the good times we had. So pick up a camera today and start collecting those memories. This has been another 'Life Lesson' from MrDA13 :)

Captain's Ball Day II

IMG_8405, originally uploaded by mrda13.

Doesn't look like it but the Boys were winning by a large margin (again) despite being few in numbers. This prompted me to intervene by importing some 'foreign talents' from 6Care. Only then did the margin narrowed but the Boys still came out the victors.

ha! I was the keeper as well as the photographer at this time but I can handle both roles.

Boys vs Girls.
I had to even the odds by joining the Girls' Team.
...and yes, I got to be both player/keeper/referee/photographer for the event and got to invent the Smashing-Slam-Dunk-After-The-Goal move ... and then was imitated by the Boys' Team :)

Overall it was a fun day (.... and didn't get to hear about any disgruntled pupils making comments about my refereeing in Facebook. Ha!)

MrDA13 @ flickr Gone Pro

Today I signed up for a 'pro' account at flickr. The normal version has a 200 photo limit and the but the 'pro' account allows unlimited uploads. It'll set me back about $3/- (or 1 cheeseburger) a month but flickr will enable me to archive the class photos as well as to put up pupils' work - for memories as well as a learning resource for the future gen :)

Oh, and I've set a personal challenge to have 10,000 photos in the gallery someday :P

Cheer Day

Well, we did not win but we were united and competed as a class. We had a mascot, a banner, props and the fabled '11 claps' in our cheer. We were also dressed to kill in our blue+red colour coordination combo . Despite the loss, there's no doubt that we are the most colourful Cheer Team today.

Congratulations everyone for doing your best :)

ProjectBlogo is now linked to mrda13@flickr.com . This means postings can be done through flickr (after upload of photo) and then be reflected to Blogger.

The previous method was to upload to Blogger but images are difficult to archive and access. Besides I also noticed that photos from flickr appears in a larger layout as compared to directly uploading to Blogger.

Ground Game Design - 6 Patience's Task

6 Patience was tasked to design and paint the ground game for the school. Toiling hard under the hot sun the going was tough but we had help from some of our other fellow schoolmates and teachers and we did it! Hope the Batam kids will love it.

2 Indonesian Songs for CIP-Batam Trip

To CIP-Batam Participants concerned,

The following are the 2 Indonesian (not Malay) songs you are supposed to remember - Laskar Pelangi by Nidji and Kenangan Terindah by Samsons. Yup, it's kinda hard to remember all the lyrics but even though I'm not a fan of Indonesian music, the song (especially the melody) kinda grows on me. Give it a chance. You may like it :)

PS: By the way, the songs are in Bahasa Indonesia and it has many similarities to the Malay language.

1) LASKAR PELANGI by Nidji

Mimpi adalah kunci
Untuk kita menaklukkan dunia
Berlarilah tanpa lelah
Sampai engkau meraihnya

Laskar pelangi
Takkan terikat waktu
Bebaskan mimpimu di angkasa
Warnai bintang di jiwa

Menarilah dan terus tertawa
Walau dunia tak seindah surga
Bersyukurlah pada yang kuasa
Cinta kita di dunia

Selamanya...

Cinta kepada hidup
Memberikan senyuman abadi
Walau hidup kadang tak adil
Tapi cinta lengkapi kita

Laskar pelangi
Takkan terikat waktu
Jangan berhenti mewarnai
Jutaan mimpi di bumi

Menarilah dan terus tertawa
Walau dunia tak seindah surga
Bersyukurlah pada yang kuasa
Cinta kita di dunia

Menarilah dan terus tertawa
Walau dunia tak seindah surga
Bersukurlah pada yang kuasa
Cinta kita di dunia

Selamanya...

Selamanya...

Laskar pelangi
Takkan terikat waktu...

2) KENANGAN TERINDAH by Samsons

i like the crescendo

------

Aku yang lemah tanpamu
Aku yang rentan karena
Cinta yang tlah hilang darimu
Yang mampu menyanjungku

Selama mata terbuka
Sampai jantung tak berdetak
Selama itu pun
Aku mampu tuk mengenangmu

Darimu, kutemukan hidupku
Bagiku, kau lah cinta sejati

Bila yang tertulis untukku
Adalah yang terbaik untukmu
Kan kujadikan kau kenangan
Yang terindah dalam hidupku
Namun takkan mudah bagiku
Meninggalkan jejak hidupku
Yang telah terukir abadi
Sebagai kenangan yang terindah

Bila yang tertulis untukku
Adalah yang terbaik untukmu
Kan kujadikan kau kenangan
Yang terindah dalam hidupku
Namun takkan mudah bagiku
Meninggalkan jejak hidupku
Yang telah terukir abadi
Sebagai kenangan yang terindah

Tying The Loose Ends...

To 6 Patience,

Please get ready the following items;-

1) Do NOT come to school from 19-23rd Oct (PSLE Marking Week) and 26-28th (Batam CIP for affected pupils only)

1) Update and upload your Final Testimonial in Moodle - English 101. The files you've uploaded some months earlier are still around and they are saved. As I've just obtained the finalised template, please do the necessary update and send me the latest version via Moodle. I will brief you further in class.
Dateline: 7 days from today

2) Any used but still presentable stationery? Do donate some for the disadvantaged Batam-school pupils.

--------for Project New Life Participants only--------
1) To prepare paint brushes to bring over to Batam. Most of the CIP work will involve giving some parts of the school a new coat of paint.

Happy Deepavali

To all my fellow Hindu pupils, colleagues and visitors, I would like to wish you a Happy Deepavali.

And if You're Happy that the PSLE is over......

What's Next?

very artistic photo- can you guess the meaning behind it? :)

Congratulations to all P6 PSLE candidates (the HMT pupils in less than 24hrs). You've finally crossed the 'Finish Line'. And inexorably, all that's left are the results right?

Well, at times it can get agonising but between now and then, there's no point worrying about something that you have no control over.

Instead of wiling away the time or worrying unncessarily, why not use the time you have now CONSTRUCTIVEly like taking up a new hobby, learn a new skill, catching up on your reading, spending time with your family or exercising and keeping fit?

Of course, do treasure the last remaining times you have with your P-school friends and teachers because things will never be the same again in a few months time when you have embarked on a new journey in Secondary School.

Don't worry, there're so many social networking websites like Friendster and Facebook for you to keep in touch with one another as opposed to during my time when there was none.

Till then, BFF Forever!
